Description
Richard Edwin Brooks American
1896, cast 1904
While in Paris, Brooks modeled and cast a statuette of a young boy on a rock, bracing himself to check the water temperature below. The subject is depicted in an animated moment and reflects the artist’s Beaux-Arts training through a composition showcasing textural contrasts among water, rock, and flesh. At the Paris Salon of 1896, Brooks exhibited a plaster statue titled “Ah! C’est froid,” likely the model for a proposed lifesize sculpture bronze.
